More than 26,000 babies are stillborn in the United States each year. Stillbirth deaths cut across all socio-economic classes, races, religions and maternal age groups. Typically, when a baby(ies) passes away in utero or delivery, the mom and baby continue their care in the labor & delivery unit, which can be extremely difficult and triggering, as everything around you is are minder that your baby is gone. You are surrounded by a room filled with equipment no longer needed, you can hear newborn babies crying and you see families having happy moments as they introduce their newborns to visitors. Our physical, emotional and mental needs are very different following our births, which is why we need a functional space designed to fill those needs. Once a mother is stable following delivery, parents can be moved to The Butterfly Suite where mom would continue receiving care in a space that supports their extending needs after the passing of their baby. In addition to physical care, parents need a space designed to help build memories with their child, memories they can hold for the rest of their lives. Our time with our children is extremely limited and having a space that honors that time can make a large impact on a family's experience.
