Our Mission
The Butterfly Suite at Cleveland Clinic Akron General
The Butterfly Suite is designed to create a home-like environment that brings as much peace and comfort to families after the death of their baby(ies). Located throughout the space, families will find notes to help guide and support them during their stay.
When first entering the space, families will walk into a sitting area that provides the following.
A couch that can convert into a full size bed. Having the support of family and friends during this time is important and providing a comfortable bed helps provide comfort to whomever may need it.
A refreshment station and fridge. We understand this can be a hard time to eat, but we encourage families to help themselves to snacks and beverages when they need it.
Sharing Special Moments ~ a rocking chair, books, bluetooth speaker. The time families spend with their baby(ies) is limited and we are here to provide the opportunity for families to build special moments with their child. Maybe families have a special story they would like to share, play or sing a song to their child. We encourage families to take this time to share what they would like with their baby in this dedicated space.
Around the corner, is the main bedroom where the following is provided for families.
A large bed designed so that both parents can sleep in the same bed, as many find this comfort helpful.
A bedside table with soft lamp lighting and a handmade quilt that families can take home as a keepsake.
A bassinet for their baby(ies) that is outfitted with a CuddleCot cooling pad that can be removed to be used while holding their child as well. This device will help prolong the time families can spend with their baby(ies). For more information on the CuddleCot visit our generous donor Ashlie’s Embrace.
On the bedside table a note is displayed letting families know they will find a selection of onesies and baby wraps that they can choose from to dress their child. We’ve included a wide range of sizes, specifically hand sewn wraps for smaller babies.
Attached to the bedroom is a large renovated bathroom with home-like furnishings, plush towels and toiletries for families to use during their stay.
Another important space for families to build memories with their child is to have the opportunity to bathe their baby(ies). In the bathroom families will find a baby bath, shampoo, soap and comb which they can take home in a drawstring bag for a keepsake. In addition, families may pick out a baby towel to use and keep.
Lastly, we let families know that the hospital staff has resources to help families take photos of your baby(ies) and family if they would like to. Many find photos to be comforting and helpful.
